VegItaly project
The VegItaly project, coordinated by the Italian Society of Vegetation Science, is dedicated to organizing within an analytical framework all the data derived from the different types of approaches used within Vegetation Science, in accordance with the definition of vegetation database” suggested by GIVD (Global Index of Vegetation-Plot Databases) and by the Eco-informatics working group of IAVS (International Association of Vegetation Science), with the aim of providing certified support to scientific research.
VegItaly is currently hosted within the anArchive project (http://www.anarchive.it), a database facility dedicated to archiving botanical data (taxonomic data, herbarium data, floristic reports, vegetation surveys). With support from the integrated anArchive system, VegItaly facilitates cross-referencing and linking of floristic and vegetation data, aimed at supporting research in the fields of geobotany, synchorology and syntaxonomy. Based on the constant supervision of experts, VegItaly manages taxonomic synonymies and keeps track of the nomenclatural history of taxa, thus enabling a proper comparison of data.
VegItaly is part of the Global Index of Vegetation-Plot Database.
