At the recent 56th IAVS symposium in Tartu, the bylaws of the new Working Group for Phytosociological Nomenclature (GPN) were approved by the IAVS Council. The group now formally exists and it replaces the former Nomenclature Commission.
Anyone with an interest in the topic can become a member of GPN.
Jean-Paul Theurillat will collect ad interim the inscriptions. Elections for the Steering Committee will be arranged in September.
Please send your inscription to GPN by email to Jean-Paul Theurillat, no later than September 3.
The tasks of GPN are mainly to prepare and implement the new editions of the Code of phytosociological nomenclature (ICPN), to engage in the nomenclatural activities that are required by the ICPN like the changes and conservation of names, to register the names of syntaxa, to register the typifications of names of syntaxa, and to inform and advise the community of vegetation scientists about nomenclatural questions. GPN will function on direct democratic principles and will work mainly by email.
